Walking Tour - An entertaining and educational walking tour of historic Llano is sure to interest visitors to the area in search of the early history of Texas. Contact the Chamber of Commerce for details and a brochure. The brochure is also available in local restaurants and motels. Golf - The Llano Municipal golf course is located two miles west of the Llano courthouse on the Old Castell Road adjacent to Robinson City Park. The 18-hole golf course has front and back T-boxes. Located on the banks of the Llano River, the colorful course presents a good challenge. A fully equipped Pro-Shop and golf carts are also available. (915)247-5100. Robinson City Park - On the banks of the Llano River, the park offers picnic and playground areas, a golf course, swimming pool and fishing. The adjacent 100 RV camping sites, community center and rodeo grounds are operated by the Llano County Community Center. Camping sites - "Honor System" Please contact 247-2551 for use and/or reservations of the Community Center Building, or the pavilion. Located on FM 152 about two miles west of the courthouse. Rock Hunting - Llano is located in the Central Mineral Region of Texas. The abundance and diversity of minerals in this area are unequaled in the state. Rock hunters often search below the dam for rocks and minerals such as quartz, granite, gneiss, flint, schist, feldspar and limestone. See the historical section regarding Llanite. Hunting - The Llano Basin has the highest density of deer in the United States; and Llano County, where deer are exceptionally plentiful, is considered by many hunters the Deer Hunting Capital of Texas. This area is also one of the best in the state for bow-hunting. Hunters can enjoy the opportunity of bagging other game such as dove, turkey and quail. Also located in Llano County are several exotic game ranches which attract hunters from across the nation. You may obtain a lease list by contacting the Chamber of Commerce. Fishing - The spring-fed Llano River, which runs through the city, offers some of the best fishing in the area. Lake Buchanan, which offers a portion of the eastern border of Llano County, was built in 1938 as a hydro-generating project covering 23,000 surface acres in the scenic Hill Country. Today, white bass, striped bass, largemouth bass, catfish, spotted bass, crappie and walleye attract fisherman to this lake year round. Hang Gliding - Visitors to Llano County can frequently see area hang gliders as they spiral gracefully down from the launch pad on the east summit of Packsaddle Mountain. Camping & Climbing - Located primarily in Llano County, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is 22 miles south of Llano on Ranch Road 965. The Rock boasts 40 percent of the best climbs in the state. The diversity of its surface provides some exceptionally challenging face climbs and numerous crack climbs. Opened year-round, the park has 46 tent sites with tent-pads, picnic tables, overhead shelters, barbecue pits, and fire rings. An attractive playground and modern restroom facilities, complete with solar-heated showers, are available to campers. For the adventuresome backpackers, the park has three remote camping areas. Each of the remote areas is equipped with composting toilets. In the picnic area provided for day visitors there are 63 picnic tables, a playground and restrooms. The park also has a group pavilion for the use of up to 75 persons, by reservation only. There are several designated hiking trails so visitors can explore the more remote areas of this 1,643-acre park. Call (915)247-3903 for information. northwest shore of Lake Buchanan. The vineyards provide entertainment & free tours
every Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. Open seven days a week from March through
November 30th . Llano County Museum - Located just north of the bridge (310 Bessemer), this interesting pioneer museum is housed in the old Bruhl Drugstore. Built in 1922, the museum gives a glimpse of Llano when it was a "boomtown". On exhibit are numerous Indian artifacts; some from the area of Enchanted Rock; early Texas artifacts; rocks and gems. You will also enjoy an exhibit about the game of polo and the world's greatest polo player, Llano's own Cecil Smith. Hours for June, July and August are 10-12 and 1:30-5:30 daily except Mondays. September through May, Thursday through Saturday 10 - 12 & 1:30 - 5:30, Sunday 1:30-5:30. (915)247-3026. Art Gallery - The Llano Fine Arts Guild Inc. promotes the fine arts in Llano by exhibiting over 200 framed paintings. Also featured in the gallery are unframed watercolors, prints, sculpture, ceramics, pottery, photographs, stained glass, enamels and an assortment of crafts. The Guild organizes special courtyard exhibitions for the Spring and Fall Arts & Crafts Shows and frequently sponsors art classes and demonstrations. Come and visit the beautiful exhibits produced by local Llano artists. The Art Gallery is located at 503 Bessemer, just north of the bridge and across from the Llano County Museum. (915)247-4839.
